Wells & Co. approached us to deliver a consistent approach to their pub pictorials across their managed pubs.
We opted for illustrations that show the progressive, fresh thinking of Wells & Co. while still giving reference to a traditional style of pub sign.
Our eclectic, simple, surrealist illustrations draw from the character of the pub. Each illustration has a modern gastronomic twist, a reference to the pubs geographical area or a drink related cue (sometimes all three). For example, check out the wine glass stirrup and the table cloth on the OLD WHITE HORSE below.
The history of each pub was researched to make sure we are sympathetic to the heritage, location or previous signage.
Eaton Oak | This design shows a pub scene complete with wine glass, bottle and a pint sculpted from the branches of an old oak tree. The complex wood grain and abstract branches behind give the scene a rich textural aesthetic.
D’Parys | This pictorial plays on the wide boulevard of D’Parys Avenue, in turn referencing the famous boulevards of Paris (De Parys). The iconic trees that border the road are reimagined as wine glasses.
The White Horse | The pub sign shows an overlapping montage of horse heads, with one strikingly white horse in the centre whose mottling forms food and drink related shapes.
